A struggle or problem between a character and an outside force.
Protagonist
The character in a work of fiction who is trying to achieve a particular purpose and who is usually the main character.
1st Person Point of View
The narrator is a character telling their own story using the pronoun I. Usually the main character.
3rd Person Observant
The narrator stands outside the story and comments only on the actions, just what it can see.
Witness Narrator
It is a character, but a secondary one. It speaks in the first person sometimes, but it tells the story of someone else (a he or a she), the main character.
Fight between the protagonist and another character, usually the antagonist.

neighborhood, community, a nation where something might be illegal that the protagonist is fighting for

The character or force in a work of fiction who tries to stop the protagonist from achieving his or her purpose; the villain of a story is often the antagonist.

Verbal Irony
When the speaker says the opposite of what they mean.
3rd Person Omniscient
The narrator is an outsider of the story and knows everything about the characters and the events. May reveal details that the characters themselves don’t know.
Dramatic Irony
When readers are aware of events or circumstances in a story of which the characters have no knowledge.
3rd person limited.
A mix of omniscient and observant. It comments on the actions taking place in the story, but it can only tell the feelings of one character.
Situational Irony
When the actual outcome of a situation is the opposite of what is expected.
Internal Conflict
A struggle between the character and himself or herself; the struggle happens in the character's heart and mind.
Foreshadowing
A device in which the writer places clues in a story to prepare the reader for events that are going to happen later.
