  • יד – Why on the way up the brothers listed after the מצרים and on the way back, they are listed first?
    They respected the brothers more after seeing the honor given to them by the kings.
  • ט - What else came along?
    Chariots & riders.
  • י – Where did they come to? Where was it?
    גרן העטד, across the ירדן
  • ו - Why only “as you swore”?
    פרעה had to let him so that יוסף wouldn’t break his oath not to reveal that he knew more languages than פרעה.
  • ד – Who did יוסף speak to?
    The household of פרעה (not directly to פרעה)
  • ה - What does "אשר כריתי לי" mean?
    Dug or bought. (also pile because יעקב made a pile of money for עשו)
  • ב – What did יוסף command should be done to יעקב?
    Embalm him.
  • יג – Who from the family did not carry the ארון of יעקב? Why?
    Grandchildren – born from כנעני women, יוסף – a king, לוי – will eventually carry the ארון. מנשה & אפרים took their place.
  • ח – What was left behind?
    The brother’s young children and sheep & cattle.
  • י - Why was it called גרן האטד?
    It was surrounded by thorns, or because of the crowns of the kings that came to do battle but instead put their crowns on top of the coffin & looked like thorns
  • ה – What did יוסף ask?
    Ask פרעה permission to go bury my father and return as he had made me swear.
  • ו – What did פרעה respond?
    Go bury your father as you swore.
  • ג – Why did the מצרים cry for יעקב?
    Because when he came the famine had ended and the Nile would rise.
  • א – How does יוסף react when יעקב is נפטר?
    Falls on his face, cries and kisses him.
  • טו – Why does the פסוק say that “the brothers saw their father had died” – what did they now see?
    יוסף wasn’t treating them the same as when יעקב was alive.
  • ג – How long did they embalm him? How long did they cry in מצרים?
    40 days embalming + 30 days crying = 70 days
  • יא – What did the people of כנען say?
    This is a serious mourning for מצרים.
  • ז – Who from מצרים came along?
    The servants of פרעה’s household – the elders and all the elders of מצרים.
