All cells have these structures that work together and enable the cell to function. These structures are supported by the cytoplasm.
organelles
This organelle is responsible for digestion in the cell. They break down and recycle old cell parts and foreign objects.
lysosomes
The organelles that use amino acids to create proteins in the cell. Proteins are needed for almost all cellular functions.
ribosomes
This jelly like substance is made mainly of water and supports the organelles and other cellular molecules.
cytoplasm
Separates the interior contents of the cell from the exterior environment. It also provides shape, support, and protection to the cell and its organelles.
cell wall
Found in the center of the cell, it controls al the activities of the cell including growth and metabolism; contains the DNA of the organism.
nucleus
Itis selectively permeable and controls what can enter or leave the cell.
cell membrane
The organelle that stores food, water, other nutrients, or waste products.
vaccuoles
Known as 'bodies' or 'aparatus', this helps process and package proteins and fat molecules, especially proteins destined to be exported from the cell.
golgi bodies
A continuous membrane system in cells that play and important role in the making, processing, and transporting of proteins and fats.
endoplasmic reticulum
The organelles responsible for creating the energy needed for cellular functions. They break down glucose and oxygen to create ATP.
