What was the Buckets' life like in a small wooden house?
In the summertime, it wasn't too bad, but in the winter, freezing cold draughts blew across the floor all night long, it was awful.
What kind of meals could the Buckets afford?
The only meals they could afford were bread and margarine for breakfast, boiled potatoes and cabbage for lunch, and cabbage soup for supper.

Only once a year for his birthday he received a small chocolate bar. He'd place it in a small wooden box, and treasure it like a bar of gold.
