Why did some plants become carnivorous?
Most form in ‘acidic soil’, which is very poor in nutrients. They need to trap and eat prey to make up for this lack in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
What does carnivorous mean?
A plant that traps and digests small animals, especially insects…
What is an adaptation?
The way in which something has changed to become better suited to its environment.
What is seed dispearsal?
the plant needs to move or transport the seeds away from the parent plant in some way so that they don't all try to grow in the same place.
What is fertilisation?
When the pollen travels from the stigma down the style to the ovary. The pollen joins with an ovule to form a seed. A NEW SEED FORMS.
What is Pollination?
Pollination occurs when pollen from the anther is transferred to the stigma, often by an insect.
What is germination?
When a seed splits and begins to grow!
What else do plants need to grow, other than the core 4? (+2)
(The right) Temperature and Space.
What are the core 4 of plant needs?
Soil, Sunlight, Air, Water
What job does the flower do?
Flowers use pollen to make seeds for new plants! (Reproductions!)
What job does the leaves do?
They make food using sunlight and carbon dioxide from the air.
What job does the stem/trunk have?
The stem/trunk holds the plan up and carries water and nutrients to the leaves.
What job do roots have?
They hold the plant to the ground and absorb water and nutrients from the soil.
What is this part of the plant called?
ROOTS
What is this part of the plant called?
LEAVES!
What is the long green part beneath the flower called?
STEM!
What is this part of the plant called?
FLOWER!
What is the study of plants called?
