  • Your classmate asks you what your doing this weekend. After you answer the question, what could you say to extend the conversation?
    You could ask, "What are you doing this weekend?" or say, "Tell me about what you're doing this weekend."
  • What is a closed-ended question?
    A question that requires a one word answer like "Yes" or "No".
  • A friend just told you that they are going to Australia over the summer. Ask an open ended question to extend the conversation.
    Cool! I have never been to Australia. What kinds of things will you be doing?
  • My friend is talking to me about a movie they like but I did not like the movie. I want to change the subject. What should I do?
    Let the friend talk for a little bit about the movie and make comments and ask questions to show you care about what they are saying. 
  • Your friend says “I like your hat!” After you respond, what could you say to continue the conversation?
    Make a comment, “Thank you, it's red, my favorite color!” Then ask, "Do you wear hats?" or ask another question related to the topic.
