A race car driver has completed 12 1/2 laps of a 50 - lap race. What fractional part of the race remains?
37 1/2 or 37.5
A man buys a goat for $60. Then sells it for $70. Then he buys it back at $80 but sells is again for $90. How much did he make?
He made $20. $10 the first time, $70 - $60 = $10, and $10 the second time, $90 - $80 = $10, for a total of $20.
7 men have 7 wives. Each man and each wife has 7 children. What is the total number of people?
If 7 men have 7 wives that simply means there are 7 coupled, so that is 7 +7 = 14. Then, if each couple has a child, that's 14 + 7 = 21.
