  • Explain DIASTOLE.
When the atria or the ventricule are receiving blood from the previous venae or chamber.
  •  15
  • Explain SYSTOLE.
When the the cardiac muscle contracts and push blook into the following chamber or artery.
  •  15
  • Explain the two heart sounds you hear when your heart is beating.
The first sound - when the atrioventricular valves close. The second sound - when the semilunar valves close.
  •  15
  • What are the three ways human blood circulates through the body? (Can you explain each?)
    Closed, Double, Complete
  •  15
  • Why do oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood never mix?
Because they run though different cardiac chambers.
  •  15
  • Name the three things that the lympathatic system consists of -
lymph, lymph nodes, and lymph vessels
  •  15
  • How is lymph moved through the body?
By contractions of the skelatal muscles
  •  15
  • Explain what LYMPH is made up of.
Proteins, fats, white blood cells (and sometimes microorganisms that are eliminated when they pass through the lymph nodes).
  •  15
  • Explain lymph vessels and their function.
They are narrow tubes with closed sacs at the end. Their function is to ensure that lymph only flows towards the heart.
  •  15
  • What do lymph nodes contain and what is their function?
They contain white blood cells and they destroy microorganisms that are in the lymph.
  •  15
  • About how many lymph nodes are found in our body? Name the three parts of our body that contain the most lymph nodes.
Our body has between 500-700 lymph nodes. The greatest concentration of lymph nodes can be found in the GROINS, ARMPITS, AND NECK.
  •  15
  • Explain the three main functions of the lymphatic system.
    1. absorption of fats 2. interstitial fluid drainage 3. defence against microorganisms.
  •  15
  • Define excretion.
The elimination of the waste products resulting from the metabolic activity of cells.
  •  15
  • Name the three systems that preform excretion.
    1. urinary system 2. respiratory system 3. liver
  •  15
  • Name the four parts of the urinary system.
    1. kidneys 2. ureters 3. the urinary bladder 4. the urethra
  •  15
  • Name the tube that connects the blader to the outside of your body.
    Urethra
