What motivated Spanish explorers to want to travel to Texas?
Fascinated by Cabeza de Vaca’s account and enticed by the potential riches in the area, other Spanish explorers left for Texas in hopes of finding treasure.
The French explorer, René Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, set out for the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico. He left France in 1684 with the intention of establishing a French fort at the mouth of the Mississippi River.
