How do we form the past perfect?
HAD + past participle
We use the past perfect for an action that happened BEFORE / AFTER another past action
BEFORE
Use the contracted form "He had left an hour before"
He'd left an hour before
Make this sentence negative: We'd been there before
We hadn't been there before
Make this a question. They'd visited the museum
Had they visited a museum?
When we ___ (finish) dinner, we ___ (go) out
When we had finished dinner, we went out
She ___ (study) a lot before she ___ (do) the exam.
